Puran poli is a classic Maharashtrian delicacy. It wins over hearts with taste and rich aroma and is so satiating and good protein meal in itself. This highly nutritious sweet which can be enjoyed by all age groups.


For puran poli:
  • Split yellow gram - 1/8 cup
  • Jaggery - 1 tsp
  • Cardamom powder - a pinch
  • Ghee - ¼ tsp
For the covering:
  • Whole wheat flour - 1/8 cup
  • Oil - ¼ tsp

Step 1 Heat the ghee in a non-stick pan Step 2 Add split yellow gram, mix well & cook till moisture evaporates. Step 3 Add the jaggery and cook until almost dry. Step 4 Keep it soft and pliable. Do not make it stiff. Step 5 Add little more ghee if required and keep it smooth. Step 6 For covering: Step 7 Mix all the ingredients & knead a soft dough.To make Puran-poli: Step 8 Make two rotis Step 9 Place the puran in the center gather the sides and seal it in the center. Step 10 Press and roll again. Make it thick. Step 11 Roast in a tava and cook well on both the side.  Step 12 Remove and smear ½ tsp ghee on both rotis. Step 13 Serve hot.
